Yesterday turned into an unexpected Lego adventure.
Darren, Luke, and Rose set off to Bray on what we thought would be a quick trip to collect some second-hand Lego. The listing had seemed modest enough, but when we arrived… well, let’s just say it was a lot more Lego than any of us anticipated — and at a lower price than agreed. A rare moment where “too good to be true” turned out to be entirely true.
The haul included a goldmine of Lego Friends and Lego Creator sets, a well-loved Lego Ideas book, and even two of those brilliant Lego storage heads. Admittedly, the instruction booklets had seen better days (think: soft, curled edges, rips, tears, and mysterious smudges), but the joy was untouched.
This morning, the kids dove straight in. Rose wasted no time recreating Lego Friends scenes with remarkable attention to detail and storytelling. Meanwhile, Luke was busy crafting futuristic robots and wild machines that looked like they’d just walked out of a sci-fi movie. The energy in the room was pure imagination in motion.
Now comes the fun part: sorting. Two giant crates and two storage heads’ worth of bricks are waiting to be organised. The goal? To start rebuilding the original sets where possible, and to integrate the best of them into our ever-growing Lego City and Museum project here at The Forge in Wicklow.
More updates soon as our city expands – with a few robots and a skate café thrown in for good measure.
