From Action Man to Scalextric to LEGO, a journey through nostalgia to obsession.
This past week, the hammer dropped on a major Vectis auction, packed to the brim with vintage Scalextric, Action Man classics, and a treasure trove of LEGO gold. While we’ve had a rich past with both Scalextric (still part of the Redmond’s Forge collection) and Action Man (fondly remembered but long boxed away), this time our eyes were locked solely on the LEGO.
And what an auction it turned out to be.
From 4 Wins to 27 Victories 🎯
The last online auction saw us walk away with just 4 wins. This time? 27 lots secured, representing a mix of nostalgia, strategy, and sheer LEGO mania. Our focus ranged from sealed gems to built models, from modern Ideas sets to deep Star Wars fan service.
But it wasn’t all victory…
We placed competitive bids on 134 lots, and were outbid on 107 of them. Among the most painful losses? The LEGO Star Wars Holy Grail itself: Cloud City. Our top bid? £2000. The hammer fell closer to £2900. Ouch. That’s a 45% leap beyond what we’d already considered our “maximum.”
Still, no regrets. What we did win more than makes up for what got away.

⚖️ Was It Worth It?
With prices ranging from £45 to £340, we kept our bids strategic. In most cases, our final bids sat within or just above Vectis estimates.
Winning #21348 Red Dragon’s Tale (Ideas) for £240 felt like a small miracle in a week where Cloud City soared to £2900. The 501st Clone lot at £340 was a calculated army-builder bargain. And sealed sets like the Medieval Blacksmith, Polaroid Camera, and Tantive IV, all acquired below market value, cemented this auction as a huge success.
We estimate our total spend came just under £3000 GBP for 27 lots. If broken down, that’s about £110 per lot on average, with several commanding far higher resale or collector value.
💭 Final Thoughts
This Vectis auction wasn’t just about the sets. It was about chasing history, filling gaps, and occasionally letting go (goodbye Cloud City, maybe next time). We leaned into the passion, LEGO remains the heartbeat of Redmond’s Forge right now, but it was impossible not to smile seeing Action Man march again and Scalextric tracks twist across nostalgia-laced lots.
From 4 wins last time to 27 victories now, the LEGO mission at Vectis was a resounding success.
Next up? Getting them to the Forge. Making room for the builds, and maybe, just maybe, prepping our own Vectis-style auction showcase at Redmond’s Forge someday.
