A LEGO Journey Through Memory Lane – Clontarf to Ayrfield

haul with memories

This weekend’s LEGO haul wasn’t just about bricks and minifigs – it was a trip through time.

The day began in Clontarf, a place close to my heart. I grew up not far from there, and many of my school friends, back in the day, hailed from Clontarf. As I rolled into the familiar streets, memories of school days and early adventures drifted in, and waiting for us was a treasure trove: 11 LEGO sets, including 9 beautiful LEGO Friends sets, tucked into two big boxes, complete with instruction manuals and, for 2, even the original boxes they came in. The care taken with this collection was clear, and it felt like we were picking up not just LEGO, but a slice of someone else’s cherished story too.

With the boot packed full, the next stop brought us even closer to my past, Ayrfield. This time it was to pick up two cool LEGO Star Wars Brickheadz, but for me, Ayrfield means football. When I was 17, I played for Ayrfield and we won the Under-18 Cup, beating Baldoyle in the final, a moment that still sticks with me as one of those magic sporting memories.

On the way back, the nostalgia tour continued. I popped into my Mum’s for a quick hello, and I dropped my sister into town, some things never change! Then it was homeward bound with the LEGO haul safely in the car.

Back at the Forge, it was show-and-tell time with the kids. The LEGO Friends sets, the Brickheadz, the boxes, the manuals; they were buzzing with excitement, already planning how the new sets would be integrated into the growing LEGO city and museum.

Two pick-ups, two places from my youth, and a whole lot of LEGO. A day full of memories, both old and new.
